In Response: Why India – Pak issue is not about Hindu Muslim issue

This entry is part 1 of 2 in the series in-response

written in response to the article  Is it Pakistan vs Hindus? by Sush Jaitly

the point and suggestions are written in very good spirit. but the biggest problem to this whole issue is the issue of Kashmir that you have not addressed at all. if India enters an discussion with a thought of ceding control over Kashmir, or even form a independent state then there could be some progress.

another angle to this thought, is the optimistic outlook of treating Pakistan as a state comparable to India, which is a flawed assumption. As according to all parameters some would go far to declare Pakistan as a failed state. so all the measures that you have suggested sure reflect the magnanimity of your heart from failure to realize the ground realities.

Pakistan in its current form, exists because the west wants a country at-least on paper to carry on its offensive in its nw border and Afghanistan which is logistically understandable.

another point to be made on your IIT / AIIMS point, for years US and UK have educated and promoted middle east student exchange only to find students passing out from Princeton and LSE to become terrorists and wage attacks on them. we have to think through this.

one of the solution, which was pointed out once, was flooding Pakistan with Indian goods and making their economy dependent. (this is purely strategic and unlike the peace oriented thought that your article reflects)

Also the China angle to the India-Pakistan dimension is often never taken it its true form. All fissures are assumed to be originating from pak but they might as well be originating from Beijing.

The point on media playing a bridging role is very well taken, but like they say, media just amplifies what the society aspires to be! but like you said a code of conduct might very well neutralize the situation many times.
