The Tiger Woods Case-study

Aristotle (Ohanian 1991) said, “Beauty is a greater recommendation than any letter of introduction.” This could aptly summarize why innumerable products are endorsed by celebrities, with or without a significant need or benefit from the same.

Tiger Woods will soon be entering advertisement case studies in B- Schools books, though not the way he probably intended to! Unlike the Christian Dior and the Sharone Stone episode, where it was a statement of karma! here it is an action unlike belief!

Look at companies like Accenture, that have almost had ‘Only Woods’ as their public image! At the time of writing this post Woods is still being featured on their homepage. And no matter what ad-line they add to his images, it kind of kindles a smirk! Tough times for Accenture! now a branding disaster!

For a company that powers most of the Media worlds software’s, editorial sympathy would help and may come by easy! especially since some of his fans inspite of the shock are still supportive. but in the future companies should do some due diligence before having mortals as their sole public faces!

In the 2 days after the episode, the usually woodsized homepage has a image slideshow with 2 other banner rotating!

But then here is the deal, in not condoning what happened, all that has happened is another man took the road always taken! so no big deal!

1. Never have your brand dependent on some unrelated mortal!

here is the after thought, looking like the way companies like accenture, gm…. etc… left, give us another gyan!

When somebody endorses you, they do so knowing the things they know about you! So if you want to be endorsed all the time, make sure you work on your dark side as well before you loose them! Guess if does apply to all of us!

But here is the deal with life!

No matter what nonsense you have done! people like the ones who bounce and make the path to recovery!

  1. Hey… It looks like there’s a problem with the site layout. For some reason the text block is getting mixed with the margins. I don’t know if it’s just me or are others reporting the same thing? Just wanted to let you know in case you’ve been changing things recently. Thanks! Jeremy Vogus
