Is Patriotism genetic? – Tukaram Ombale
I am beginning to write this post just after Rajdeep Sardesai tweeted about Tukaram Ombale’s daughter becoming a traffic cop. His tweet did say don’t ask who it is! So did a search and was ashamed that i did not know who Tukaram Ombale was.
He was a Assistant Sub Inspector with the Mumbai Police who died in the Mumbai 26/11 attacks. He was the one who help catch Kasab the lone survivor gunman alive but died in the act. He was given Ashok Chakra for his gallant work, and the news is tha his daughter just joined the Force.
If you notice even in the army, families join the forces generation after generation inspite of loosing lives! Patriotism sure must be genetic. This may not be scientifically proven in fact, but empirically speaking it sure is!
It is this act of selflessness of some that helps societies to move forward and in doing so may we not forget these selfless individuals.
May the rest of us and bureaucracy respect this character of theirs and take decisions with prudence!

i landed on your article from google and sorry i also did not know about Tukaram Ombale very sad.
Touche. Today it was reported that she returned the charity amount that was collected by kids of a school to be given to her. And that she has refused such gestures in the past too. Also, in this time where everyone is out to milk the attacks to blame and claim, she was virtually no where in the news
She (and her mom) said that her dad wouldn’t have approved of this (accepting money) and that he loved children.
Selflessness is truly beginning to be a virtue of a few. RIP Ombale. I am sure you will, with a daughter like yours
