Experience with Mr Naresh Gupta , Chief Election Commissioner
Having been to the Secretariat a couple of times in past, the usual process of going through the security checks was kind of usual but not with the fact that we arrived there sweating (courtesy my le pederosa that had a punctured rear tire) we were sweating like crazy and already late for our appointment by 30 minutes. we were to meet the joint ceo Jayashree Muralidharan, IAS. We walked into her room with a apologetic ‘i am late sorry’ view. But then she was very eager and got discussing about what we met her for.
At a time when the election commission is supposedly the reigning supreme organization among all government departments considering the election quarter, almost all of them we met at the office had no airs and very lower than down to earth personalities!
Then came the rude shock. We went and met the CEO Mr Naresh Gupta. Now this was embarrassing, i had heard that this man was notoriously simple! But then to the point that i first thought that he probably was not the CEO and maybe a support staff!
Now folks i should tell you guys a bit more about this man! He is not simple! He is frugal!
Now before i get drawn into a controversy, let me also tell you the meaning of frugal! The man lives is what can be termed as ‘Absolute basics’! Many of you might know him for his sensational first press meet in which he walked in just to say ‘If anybody questions my integrity, i will resign’ and just walked away!
Having known this incident you would assume a strong, stern looking man on the other side of the door, but turns out that this man just reset the standard for Simplicity and Frugality!
A must meet man for people who aspire to become future public service employees.

Just happened to see this great person yesterday at Marina Beach, Chennai when we all assembled to form a human chain to support the Jan LokPal Bill to curb corruption(http://indiaagainstcorruption.org). I was really shocked at his very very modest appearance and I had scan him from top to bottom several times to digest the fact that he is a former election commissioner. Hatz off to him.
Funny, I was just thinking about http://danielsrepublic.com/country/2009/04/experience-with-mr-naresh-gupta-chief-election-commissioner/ yesterday. I’m glad you uploaded it. Its very good info. Thanks again!
