South India Positive Network – Children’s Home

Went to SIPN child home. An organisation that does a lot of work among the AIDS affected community in Chennai. The home is led by Ms Noorie, whom i could not meet but then did meet the children of the home. For a person like me who has had the most comfortable upbringing it was almost a shattering experience to the visualise the lives of these 30 tiny tots. The youngest of the group being Josephine (Jose as they all call her) is 1 years.

Nobody can tell by the sheer energy and excitement in the faces of these children that these kids are suffering from such a terrible ailment. Ms Noorie and her team are battling with their resources to manage the lives of these kids. Any help would be wonderfully welcome. You can visit their site at http://www.sipnetwork.in/ (It was down the last time i checked, will inform the same to the right person there)

I was all the time drawing a comparison between what happens back home with our children and what was happening here. Children in our homes are constantly taken care of, showered with a 1000 kisses, played with, but here saw kids who were happy no doubt, but the thought of what the future held for them sent disturbing thoughts. A single room to house 20 childen , no cozy AC’s , no bikes to ride , no nappies, a childhood lost and yet when you meet this children, there is an extraordinary sense of energy in them, that always makes you feel like a dwarf.

These children are a contant reminder of our societies failure of take care of less fortunate ones.
