A Powerful Unassuming City

I am back to my desk and here goes my experience. The Journey was more eventful than any other Bus journey that i have had in recent times.

I was late and i was very late already :( Starting the journey was my chase towards a bus that i missed! I had to chase some 10 kms to catch the Volvo Engineering masterpiece. Atlast the driver decided to stop for this chasing passenger….. courtesy My colleague who was in the Bus and had just come to his senses :) Then started the jouney with one colleague and 3 other Political kingpins who were giving us access to some highly placed sources(They said that not me). Travelling with them was very useful as i realised the under currents that play and govern our Political system.

I should be writing post soon on the political system but let me keep to my travel experience here.

Reached madurai at around 5:30. This has been my fourth trip to the city. No words can explain the philosophy that a city reflects and need i say any more about this city. There is something so very very Tamil’ish about this city. The city is so very unassuming. yet to be brought down by the whims and fancies of the IT industry. The city is more political that statetly in the sense that Politics seems to be the point of cross currents in the society. People are very helpful but not necessarily graceful in doing so. People are lade back but not lazy. People are loud but not annoying. They stare but are not intruding.

Moved to the hotel and our appointment was at 8 AM !!!! It was over a cup of coffee, mind you it was his cup of coffee :( We started with the SAP word and our man seemed to know everything already and i was like Wow! So far away from the Germany here is man who knows something. But my amusement was shortlived until he said… I like this medical equipment! @#$%^&*()!@#$%^&* How on earth do i explain to this wonderful leader of this country what SAP was…. I started giving an explanation and then our man seemed to be knowing everything. But one thing about him that really intrested me was that when he was listening he honestly was doing so wanting to get a grasp of it.

The man was indeed amused and feel into the awesome German Chakrawhu of SAP AG. And rest ofcourse is very liekly to be history in due course. Another business bites the dust!

Got back to the hotel and all wanted some rest. My colleague and i ventured into the bright sun around to explore the city. Visited the magnanimous madurai Meenakshi Temple. Did not come across as expected but was still nice to see.

This future capital city of Tamilnadu Part 2 really came across as a city in the making. But it was nice to experience a true tamil linguistic world filled with people who are enjoying living. Got back to the hotel…. The next few hours was like a tussle between me and the Hotel kitchen cause everytime the Kitchen guys would not deliver what we had asked for to our room and blame that part on me for telling the wrong room number! The man in the other room was like fuming as he was repeatedly distrubed with something that he had not ordered.

Our return was was at eight. Went shopping in the land of the Padya empire. The city almost comes to a lively life in the evening. Unlike the IT highway traffic that we are used to back in the Chennai, people are gathering together, socialising, discussing, arguing :)

The traffic police seem to be the same! They were doing what they do to motorist back here in chennai. Need i say any more about them! Got the Bus… It was a sleeper bus……… but modified KPN and so struturally it was precarious, which was obvious only to my eyes i should say. Otherwise why would anybody take a dynamic live superimposed load on a structure higher up in vehicle which would affect the stability of vehicle so much in motion.

Anyways may i was just seeing too much of a safety issue when there was need to be so paranoid. Reached the ‘land where the sun never sets except at night’ at around 5:30. And rest is monotony!
